BONO EAST REGION SET TO INVEST IN 4 AGRIC PROJECTS TO CREATE JOBS FOR YOUTH

The Bono East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has mentioned that the region is set to invest in four (4) agricultural projects to create more jobs for the teeming youth, boost local production of food and sustain a robust economy.

According to the council, the region has set the objective of leading food producers in the country with a key focus on rice production in the next six years if the plans and strategies are well-strategized and successfully implemented.

The four projects include; Farm Service Centres, Green House Estate in the Techiman Municipality and Techiman North District; Digya Agro Park Project in the Sene and Pru districts and Cattle Improvement Project in the Kintampo Municipality.

Aside the four projects, the region is set to invest in the rehabilitation and construction of irrigation facilities to encourage the local production of vegetables all year round.

The council revealed that under the project, about 53 farm types of machinery and equipment will be procured at an estimated cost of $13, 425000 for the preparation of land, planting and harvesting. Among some of the machines and equipment to be procured are eight tractors for ploughing and harvesting, four combined harvesters, five HD ploughing MF Disk, ten tandem harrows and five self-propelled boom sprayers.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Honourable Kwasi Adu-Gyan in speaking during the visit of the Indian High Commissioner, Mr. Sugandh Rajaran, said the region is worthy of investments from investors thus players in the sector should invest much in the region.

He stated that the cattle improvement project would protect farmlands and crops as well as manage cattle movement and production.

Speaking on the Green House Project, Mr. Adu-Gyan disclosed that the region intends to complete a 50-unit greenhouse estate with an established facility responsible for training the youth to equip the teeming youth with practical skills to effectively use technological devices in agriculture.
