Govt committed to reviving Komenda Sugar Factory to drive industrialization-Alan Kyeremanten

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten, has paid a working visit to the Komenda Sugar Factory to inspect the civil works undertaken by the Indian investors to revive the factory.

The visit formed part of the Government’s commitment to pushing the industrialization agenda forward.

He was accompanied by the Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, and other dignitaries.

This has come as a recall to the commitment made by President Akufo-Addo to see to the full operation of the factory in April 2022 when he received a delegation from the Komenda Traditional Authority at the Jubilee House.

Mr. Kyeremanten mentioned that he was impressed with the progress of work and expressed optimism about the revival of the factory which will create jobs for sugar cane growers and the youth; thereby, reviving the local economy.

In Cape Coast, Mr. Kyeremanten led the delegation to visit the abandoned Ameen Sangari Industries Limited, which was captured under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) industrialization initiative would also be revamped by the government.

The company had operated in the Metropolis for close to 10 decades and had more than 600 workers, but it had to reduce the workforce to 280 due to the high cost of power, pilfering and administrative challenges.

During the visit, Mr. Kyeremanten revealed that the company had received a 6.1 million cedis loan facility which covers the procurement of equipment and machinery as well as working capital.

He assured the public that the factory will commence production very soon to create more job opportunities for the people in the Metropolis.
