USDA approves grant to increase domestic fertilizer production

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that the department has approved a grant of $29 million to aid independent businesses in producing more American-made fertilizer created, which will enhance competition, provide American farmers more options and more affordable rates, and lessen reliance on unreliable foreign suppliers like Russia and Belarus.

The Secretary of USDA, Tom Vilsack, said, “I know that increased costs for fertilizer and other inputs have put a strain on farmers and cut into the bottom line.”

“By expanding the production of domestic fertilizer supplies, we can grow independent local businesses, bring production and jobs to rural communities and support fair prices for our farmers,” he added.

According to him, the Biden-Harris administration’s Fertilizer Production Expansion Program is part of a government-wide effort to promote competition in agricultural markets.

He made this statement while speaking at the 2023 Commodity Classic, in Orlando, Florida, the same event where he first unveiled the program a year earlier.
