“Agriculture is the key to ending unemployment.” -Upper West Regional NYA Director

The Upper East Regional Director of Youth Authority (NYA), Mr. Francis Takyi-Koranteng, has said that the key to ending unemployment, poverty, hunger, and social vices in the country is agriculture.

He made this known during his speech at the Youth in Agribusiness Summit held in Bolgatanga last Saturday.

The summit was organised by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of its Feed the Future Ghana Policy Link, Market Systems and Resilience (MSR), and Mobilising Finance in Agriculture (MFA) projects with the aim of empowering the youth with entrepreneurship and innovative skills to venture into agriculture.

According to Mr. Takyi-Koranteng, “Providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools, as well as creating an enabling environment, would not only attract the youth to good agricultural practises but also make them key actors in the agriculture value chain.”

He, therefore, emphasised the need to support the youth with the essential resources and equipment needed to encourage them to indulge in agriculture to help boost productivity and contribute to the development of the country.

Commenting on the theme “Empowering youth agripreneurs as drivers for innovation and sustainable economic growth,” the director noted that it was in line with this year’s International Youth Day (IYD) and that the market systems and resilience project for the youth in agribusiness and what it intends to achieve are captured in the Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, and 3.
