A youth-transformative agricultural initiative launched

Rethink, a transformative initiative that seeks to change the mindset of the youth towards agriculture and agribusiness, was launched in Accra yesterday.

This groundbreaking effort is being spearheaded by Siriboe Farms Limited, a venture linked to the Office of the 2022 National Best Farmer. The core objective of the initiative is to provide young individuals with mentorship opportunities, fostering their expertise in modern technology and optimal farming techniques across the agricultural value chain.

In addition to its mentorship focus, “Rethink” will function as a potent advocacy platform for youth engagement in agriculture. By collaborating with policymakers and key industry figures, the initiative intends to advocate for policies that empower youth and enhance their access to financial resources within the agricultural sector.

The official launch event took place yesterday and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of strategic partners, including the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Each of these partners wholeheartedly pledged their commitment to driving a revolutionary shift in the agricultural landscape of the nation.

Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe, the CEO of Siriboe Farms Limited and the distinguished 2022 National Best Farmer, articulated that the essence of “Rethink” lies in revitalising the agricultural sector by nurturing a new generation of young entrepreneurs along the entire value chain. He shared his vision of utilising the Graphic National Development Dialogue Series to rally stakeholders in support of this agricultural renaissance.

Reflecting on his role as the 2022 National Best Farmer, Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe expressed that this honour served as a compelling call to action. He emphasised that the mission of “Rethink” is to equip the youth with the knowledge, tools, and education imperative for sustaining the agricultural legacy and propelling it to greater heights.

Acknowledging the prevailing global climate crisis and its detrimental impact on agriculture, Nana Siriboe asserted that the younger generation possesses the potential to leverage technology to counter challenges such as soil conservation, biodiversity preservation, and the reduction of post-harvest losses.

Furthermore, Nana Siriboe shed light on the Siriboe Institute, a hub dedicated to fostering youth employment. The institute has already empowered over 5,000 young individuals, enabling them to actively participate in various facets of agricultural practises.

The launch of the “Rethink” initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a renewed enthusiasm for agriculture among the youth of Accra. With strong collaborative support from strategic partners and the visionary leadership of Siriboe Farms Limited, the agricultural sector is poised for a transformative journey ahead.
