Agric Ministry offers support to local companies to boost the production of organic fertilizer

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture said it is offering support to local companies that are into the production of organic fertilizers to boost their production.

According to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the aim of the support is to work collaboratively with the local companies to produce fertilizers on a large scale for farmers across the country.

The Minister made this known at a press conference to brief journalists on the acute shortage of agrochemicals in the country.

He has assured farmers that the Ministry will see to it that the production of organic fertilizers will be increased to ensure food security in the country despite the challenges posed by the Russian-Ukraine war on fertilizer supply.

“In a catastrophic situation, you need to be able to adapt and come out stronger. So we feel that we need to encourage the production of quality organic fertilizer domestically,” he said.

He added that “From January to May this year, there has been a sharp drop in the amount of fertilizer distributed to farmers in this country.”

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Accra Compost ad Recycling Plant, Michael Padi Tuwor, applauded the intervention of the Ministry, saying that he is looking forward to witnessing a growing fertilizer production sector where local producers will take advantage of the competitive environment and produce high-quality fertilizers.
