Ghana-Thailand Partnership to Increase Rice Production

At the Thailand-Ghana Business Conference in Bangkok, the Chief Executive Officer of the Asian African Consortium (AAC), Mrs. Adelaide Araba Agyepong disclosed that, strategic partnerships have been formed to ensure that Ghana increases rice production to end rice imports.

According to her, the AAC has gotten a lot of support from stakeholders in Ghana and Thailand since the project’s inception in 2022.

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture (in charge of Crops), Mr. Yaw Addo Frimpong, urged Thai investors in the rice value chain to invest in Ghana.

He emphasized that Thailand, a global leader in rice production, could support Ghana in its attempts to achieve rice self-sufficiency and produce extra for export to other West African nations.

He further stated that 600,000 metric tonnes of rice are currently produced by the government and small-scale rice farmers, although Ghana’s annual consumption demand for rice is between 1.2 million and 1.4 million metric tonnes.

The conference was a component of the initiative to help Ghana become self-sufficient in rice production, which was started by Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the JGC.
