Investors urged to explore Ghana’s thriving agric sector

In a bid to bolster its agricultural sector, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, has extended an invitation to international investors to seize opportunities in the country’s agricultural industry.

Speaking at the ‘Ghana Dealroom’ session during the 2023 Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the deputy minister emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a favorable business environment for agribusinesses.

“Government is consciously giving incentives to agribusinesses in Ghana. Everything in agriculture, the government is giving special incentives on,” said Mr. Frimpong Addo, who also serves as the Manso Adubia Member of Parliament.

One of the key incentives highlighted by the Deputy Minister is the full government support for mechanization through tax waivers and other incentives.

He went on to stress Ghana’s excellent agricultural climate, exceptional hospitality, and enduring peace as additional advantages for potential investors.

“We are telling investors that when you come, these are the things you will enjoy in Ghana to have a successful take-off in any investment in agriculture. And people are happy with it because you can’t have it in any other country,” he affirmed.

The Agribusiness Dealroom, a prominent segment of the AFSF, serves as a matchmaking platform, bringing together stakeholders to facilitate partnerships and investments in African agriculture. It particularly aids governments and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in gaining access to finance and partnership opportunities.

Organized by AGRA (the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa), the AFSF is a premier global forum on African agriculture and food systems.

It convenes stakeholders to take practical action and share lessons aimed at advancing African food systems. The event was previously known as the Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF).

The ‘Ghana Dealroom’ attracted international private sector actors, donor organizations, and various industry players. Deputy Minister Frimpong Addo expressed his excitement about the program’s contributions, stating, “I am grateful to AGRA for this Dealroom. We have lots of opportunities back home, and the people are buying into it.”

AGRA’s Ghana Country Manager, Juliette Lampoh, also expressed optimism about the outcomes of the event, emphasizing the promising opportunities showcased.

“It is the beginning of great things that will happen,” she remarked, pledging to follow up on the contacts made during the event.

Ghana’s proactive approach to attracting international investment in its agricultural sector demonstrates its commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in the industry, which holds significant potential for the nation’s future prosperity.
