MoFA to move Ghana from smallholder to large scale farming – Deputy Minister

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo says the Ministry is working to transition agriculture from smallholder, medium, to large scale.

According to him, the Ministry would draw financial institutions to the agricultural sector.

The Deputy Minister made this statement at the second Gathering of the Royals in Accra, which was organized by the Agrihouse Foundation to foster ties between Ghana’s Queen Mothers and the country’s agricultural sector.

Agribusiness value chain participants, policymakers, and development partners were present at the conference, along with Queen Mothers who were farmers from the 16 regions of the nation.

The Deputy Minister added that some financial institutions were hesitant to lend money to farmers because they believed agriculture to be a risky venture.

The Executive Director of  Agrihouse Foundation, Miss Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, claimed that the Queen Mothers were forces for development and agents of change.

The “One Household, One Graden” project was one of the significant contributions made by the event over the years, she said.

The Organic Group Protectant (OCP), one of the biggest phosphate and fertilizer businesses, had also provided training, according to Miss Akosa, in communities that used the Queen moms as access points.
