Sekondi Takoradi Farmers Receive over 5,000 coconut seedlings

More than 5,000 coconut seedlings have been distributed to 5,000 farmers in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan area since the launch of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

The farmers also received maize, vegetables seeds and other agriculture resources to aid in effective farm management practices to increase yields.

The Metropolitan Director of Agriculture, Mr Daniel Asimenu, said, more farmers had enrolled to receive rubber stumps for the 2023 growing season.

He said that many extension workers had been employed as part of the program’s initiative to support rural agriculture and wealth creation to provide farmers with the information they needed to make wise decisions.

Mr. Asimenu has so urged the farmers to keep up good farming techniques that will guarantee a plentiful crop over the following four years.

“Farmers have also been educated to add home gardening as a component to the regular farming methods. We have provided citrus, guava, mango among other citrus to our farmers”, he said.

“We are also working hard on market linkages to ensure that our farmers get value for their hard labour”, the Agric Director added.
