THE PEOPLE ORIENTED PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST – Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong

Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong – Head of Procurement, (MOFA) Ministry of Food and Agriculture

Taking up the role of blessing and impacting the lives of others has placed Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong in a positive light, and revealed his inward personality. Hailing from the Ashanti Region of Ghana, he is the third born of his parents, married to a beautiful lady, Mrs. Abena Konadu Acheampong and blessed with 4 amazing children, 2 boys and 2 girls.

He had his basic school education at St. Benedict School and proceeded with his senior high school education in Opoku Ware Senior High School. In Opoku Ware, he pursued Agriculture and later furthered his education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) where he had a common wealth scholarship to pursue Agriculture in Tanzania. He rounded up his education with a master’s degree from Gottingen University in Germany where he read socio-economic development in Rural Development, and he has since worked with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) where he is practically applying his experience and knowledge to benefit the agricultural sector.

Mr. Acheampong is an elder in the Church of Pentecost and doubles as the National Secretary for the Pentecost Business Network. Currently, he spearheads a Chinese Christian Business Chamber project by the Church of Pentecost and serves as a member on the board of the Educational Foundational Scholarship in Pentecost.

He ventured into the field of Procurement with an agriculture background, and since then, has worked as a procurement specialist. With his numerous certificates in the procurement space, he has run world bank-funded projects, African Development Bank Funded Projects, World Food Programme, Canadian Funded Project, and other donor-funded projects within the Ministry serving as a procurement officer.

Currently, he is the Head of Procurement in the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and he has been in office for four (4) years. Alongside, he is also providing procurement support to the Savannah Agriculture Productivity Improvement Programme and the Savannah Improvement Programme all in the Northern Part of the country. He has also served as a procurement specialist for a World Bank Funded Project called “Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project” which ended last year.

Despite his busy schedule as a procurement specialist, he always makes time to be a blessing to people when at work and off-duty as well. In his field, he has created a lot of employment opportunities for people and his deeds as a people-oriented individual is one that is endeared by all. He is of the firm belief that life is given to us as a gift and whatever you have is for the benefit of others, as such, what motivates him is to be in the position to bless the lives of many.

Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong believes that since agriculture is the creation of God, it has an eternal value attached to every bit of it.

Consequently, he always encourages everyone to indulge in farming even if it is a hobby. To him, food is an important part of human life. Normally on weekends, he never jokes with his favourite delicacy of all time, “Fufu”.

Speaking from experience and the position he finds himself in, he is of the view that Agriculture is one of the richest jobs anyone can venture into and all philosophies implying that agriculture is a poor man’s job is simply nothing but a fallacy. Agriculture has the capacity to employ and it has a lot of wealth, as such, the rich people in this country are people in the agricultural sector, he always says.

To every individual, there is a gift and for Mr. Acheampong, his gift is the ability to generate ideas, the ability to identify solutions even within difficult situations and worse case scenarios. With this gift, he was able to identify a problem with his junior student back in his school days about his academics. He then advised him, and the student in question had straight ‘As’ owing to that advice. His joy is to see people succeed and that is what inspires him.

Still, on the business of the people, he is working on a project he identifies to be his most profound achievement called Funding a Research Programme that has a global impact, and he believes that when it is launched, it is going to be of grave benefit to everyone and the nation on a large scale.

The people-oriented Procurement Specialist never ceases to make known to the public that the future of the youth is in Agriculture and the major problem with the youth is instant gratification. In his words, “if the youth use the same energy they use when pursuing white-collar jobs to pursue farming, there will be massive transformation. Even if you want quick money, crops like maize, soybean vegetables can be grown which you can harvest in the period of 4 months.”

There are a lot of altruistic or people-oriented individuals and leaders out there, but what sets Mr. Ebenezer Acheampong apart is the passion and principles he works with. Some may call him a Magnanimous individual, others a Selfless leader but we call him a “People-Oriented Procurement Specialist”.
