WINNOWER

Agricultural activities have brought about the invention of machinery and equipment necessary for making work on the farm and off-farm more successful and easier. With increased innovations, the winnower as agricultural equipment is one of the key machinery used on the farm, and its functions and advantages adds a significant value to the production of crops on the farm. Winnower is a machine firstly invented in Scotland by a Farmer called Andrew Rodger in 1737 when he wanted to separate corn.

A Winnower is a machine mainly used in agricultural activities to separate the chaff of grains and cereal-like crops, such as rice, wheat, oats among other crops. With the aid of the wind and this is largely used by Farmers. The process or the method is called winnowing where there is tossing of grain into the air and letting the wind carry off the lightest impurities.

Using a winnower contributes to a low-power consumption rate, saves time and energy and simple and convenient operation.

USES OF THE WINNOWER

It helps to obtain a clean paddy for storage and further processing. After harvesting rice or any cereal-like crop, there are a lot of dirt on the crop, thus winnowing them helps to obtain a clean crop which helps in further processing and packaging.

It protects the machine from the dust, stones; thereby prolong its life span. The winnower pre-cleans and removes dusts from the crop thereby prolonging the life span of the machinery or any other machinery which would further encounter the crop.

It removes weevils or other pests from stored grain. Weevils and pests are seen to destroy most crops after harvesting. Human interventions haven’t been dominant in removing crops and weevils, but rather, the winnower is essential is removing dangerous pests off the crop.

FEATURES OF WINNOWER

A winnower machine has the following features;

  • Body frame made of SS pipes.
  • Body made of SS sheets.
  • Vibratory motors mounted on flanges mounted on a pipe fitted on the body.
  • Winnower machine is similar to apron conveyor mounted after the vibrating unit.
  • Springs to ensure that vibration is not transmitted to the body frame.

TYPES OF WINNOWER

Some types of winnowing machines are hot sale paddy wheat winnower, manual electric rice winnower, automatic paddy winnower, manual modern winnower and S06-L Manual Grain Winnower.

In conclusion, winnowing machines are very instrumental in the agricultural value chain and plays a critical role in getting a clean crop.
