Federal Ministry of Agriculture Provides Relief to Maize Farmers in Oyo State

In a commendable effort to support local farmers affected by the 2022 floods, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) distributed free farm inputs to 39 maize farmers in Oyo State. Each beneficiary received five kilograms of maize seeds, three liters of herbicides, and 25 kilograms of fertilizer.

The distribution of these essential farming materials was carried out by an Executive Officer from the Ministry’s Headquarters, Mrs. Bose Adediran, who emphasized that the selected farmers had previously undergone training on the proper application of these inputs. The initiative aims to alleviate the adverse impacts of the 2022 floods that ravaged farmlands across Nigeria.

Mrs. Adediran stressed that this support would significantly boost crop yields, contributing to food sufficiency in both Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. She also urged the beneficiaries not to sell the inputs, emphasizing the government’s intention to assist local farmers.

Dr. Florence Kakulu, the FMARD State Coordinator, highlighted that the beneficiaries were part of a group of farmers who received training on various agricultural commodities through the ministry’s Department of Agricultural Extension. She urged the farmers to use the provided inputs judiciously to achieve the best possible results.

Mr. Olatoye Abiodun, Director of Agricultural Extension at Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed gratitude to FMARD for its support to the state’s farmers. He encouraged the farmers to follow best agricultural practices to ensure a bountiful harvest and enhance food security in the state.
In response, Mr. Adepoju Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government and the Ministry for their timely assistance and vowed to make optimal use of the provided items.
