Independence Address: President Akufo Addo Commends Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire Partnership in Cocoa Production

During Ghana’s 67th Independence Day celebrations, President Akufo Addo lauded the strategic partnership between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in cocoa production.

The President expressed gratitude to His Excellency Alassane Ouattara, the President of Côte d’Ivoire, for gracing the occasion with his presence, emphasizing the significance of the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Highlighting the Agreement for Strategic Partnership signed in 2017, President Akufo Addo underscored its pivotal role in enhancing collaboration, particularly in the cocoa sector.

This partnership, he noted, has enabled both countries to coordinate policies effectively, resulting in considerable benefits for cocoa farmers, including record-high prices per bag of cocoa in their respective histories.

According to him, the two countries contribute 65 percent of global cocoa production output.

Furthermore, President Akufo Addo commended the mature resolution of the maritime border dispute between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, emphasizing President Ouattara’s statesmanship in peacefully accommodating the court’s decision in Ghana’s favor.

The President’s remarks underscored the importance of the cocoa sector in both nations’ economies and the shared commitment to ensuring its sustainable growth.

The cooperative efforts between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire in the cocoa industry serve as a testament to the enduring friendship and mutual cooperation between the two West African countries.

As Ghana celebrates its democracy and independence, the acknowledgment of the fruitful collaboration in the cocoa sector reflects a shared vision for economic prosperity and development in the region. The President’s address resonated with the theme of unity and partnership, reinforcing the notion that together, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire can achieve greater heights in agricultural excellence and economic development.
