UDS CONFERS HONORARY DEGREE ON NAA ALHASSAN ANDANI

The University of Development Studies has conferred an honorary degree on the former Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Naa Alhassan Adani, for his humanitarian services to the region and country as a whole.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of UDS, Professor Wayo Seini, conferred upon Naa Andani the honors last Saturday at the 22nd Congregation of the university at Tamale where he said, “His contribution to the development of UDS and the region cannot be underestimated. His late brother who was the Paramount Chief of Sagnarigu allocated vast land for the establishment of the university.”

The congratulatory messages covered his humanitarian works, his enormous contribution to the banking sector, the Northern Region and the country at large. Together with his award, a total of 7,293 students graduated from various post-graduate, graduate, undergraduate, and diploma programs.

Naa Alhassan Andani is the Chief of Pishigu in the Dagbon Kingdom, an economist and the grandson of Naa Andani who ruled Dagbon in the colonial era. He is also the former Managing Director for Stanbic Bank and the former President of the Ghana Association of Bankers.

In addition to the awards received was a citation which delineated him as “a visionary, courageous, transformational, exemplary leader, economic and cultural development high achiever and distinguished reformer.” Naa Alhassan Andani as part of his numerous works set up a GHc200,000.00 Endowment Fund at the University to support students. He also introduced two major awards in the school each equivalent to 1,000 dollars; Best Medical Student, and Best Agricultural Economics Student.

Naa Alhassan Andani in response to the honor conferred upon him, expressed gratitude to UDS, the Academic Board and the University Council. He then dedicated the award to the Andan Family for their contribution to the development of the society as well. He said, “The University is living up to its anthem; Knowledge for Service, and practicalising knowledge. As a global University, they have recognised service, they have recognised practicalising education and in living up to their anthem, they conferred on me this award.”

“I am grateful to all my employers, who have over the years, given me opportunities to serve. All of my colleagues, who have taught me a lot. Most importantly, I have been a customer service person and my customers have taught me more than any university would have ever taught me,” he added.

He noted that aside the contribution of the family towards the endowment fund, Standard Bank added up to the GHc100,000.00 bringing the total to GHc200.000.00.”
